June 9th - Day 5 - Rota, Spain

On Saturday, day five , we woke up to Mike Seagle preparing a delicious, and fulfilling breakfast. We said our goodbyes to our friends and went back to the terminal to fly to Spain. We spent all day in the terminal waiting for the flight to come back from Dover because the plane was experiencing typical C5 malfunctions, which the C5 was the plane we rode on. Finally, around 5:30 in the afternoon, they began to call names to board everyone on the plane. It took about two hours for them to get us onto the plane because they had to make more adjustments. Finally, around 8:00, we were in the air on our way to Rota Spain. It was a seven hour and thirteen minute flight according to Davis, our timekeeper. We arrived in Rota around 9:30 in the morning and were able to walk directly into our hotel room on base because we booked the room while we were waiting in the terminal at Charleston. We were so tired from the jet lag and spent the day we arrived in Spain in the bed. The sun does not set until 10:00 at night all over Europe so when bedtime came around we were all awake. The jetlag was awful, but we were so thankful to have arrived to our destination, and made ourselves comfortable at the base as best we could.
