Right now I am sitting in a hotel in Rota, Spain. To say this trip has been an adventure is an under statement. Note to self: Don't go anyway without your passport in your hand! When we arrive here in Rota on Sunday morning. We had a room, really a small apartment at the Navy Lodge. We could stay there until the 12th. We rested on Sunday and went to the base commissary and the kids went to the beach. On Monday we decided that we wanted to see Rota. Davis had asked me when would we get our passports stamped since they were not stamped when we landed at the base. I asked around and found that we had to go to the police station and when I found this out on Monday it was already about 1 PM and you can only get this done during the hours of 9-1:00 PM. But I was told that was OK because we had 72 hours to get this done. The nervousness set in. As we were leaving the base in a taxi the driver asked if we had documentation and I said yes because we had our military ID cards. Off we went. We ate a nice lunch and walked at least 5 miles all over town. We were ready to go back, caught a taxi and off we went to the Navy Lodge. Got to the gate, they asked for our passports, I said I didn't have them, they said we were not allowed back on the base. But they all of a sudden said, "go back and get your documents and come back and we will decide what to do". When we got to the lodge I went to the desk and the girl there began to help me. It was decided that we didn't have to go back to the gate but we did need to leave the next day. Before we found out we didn't have to go back to the gate, the kids and I packed in a hurry just in case. So when we found out we didn't have to leave, we unpacked, washed our dirty clothes at the lodge and continued to work with the folks at the lodge about what we were going to do. The people at the lodge were wonderful. This morning they got us a taxi and a hotel room at a nice place. They even arranged for a taxi to come and get us tomorrow afternoon and take us to the city we are flying out of. The kids have gone down the street to find something to eat and we are going to relax in this nice hotel. This place has a very nice pool but the weather feels like it is about 70 degrees outside.
